We have been operating in the forefront of demolition, deconstruction and non-licensed asbestos removal for over thirty years. In recent times we have witnessed year on year growth in soft strip demolition making Ashbek Dismantling one of the nation’s leaders in this field. We work throughout the UK and can be mobile, for emergencies like fire or flood damage, within twenty four hours.

Our work can be split into four main categories: Soft strip demolition, non-licensed asbestos removal, small scale building demolition and mechanical & electrical removal. Our clients have come to rely on first class delivery of their assignments in good time and on budget.

Ashbek Dismantling operatives are experienced in all aspects of the demolition industry including CSCS, CCDO, UKATA, Pasma, and IPAF 3a and 3b. We possess full medical accreditations for asbestos removal and are continuously undertaking health and safety training.

Soft Strip Demolition

There are many theories to how a building should be taken back to its original fabric, but every one has planning at its core. We will endeavour to work with project managers to ensure all elements are identified, noted and managed with coordination and in accordance with industry legislation and best practice. Our skills include the soft strip of commercial and industrial buildings, town centre projects (e.g. public buildings, retail premises), escalator removal, and lift shaft decommissioning and removal. We also possess a wealth of experience in dismantling listed buildings and facade retention where careful timing and consideration are priority.

Non-licensed Asbestos Removal

According to the control of asbestos regulations 2012 it is the explicit duty of owner and employer in occupation of any non-domestic property to manage the risk of asbestos, whether notifiable or not. At Ashbek we undertake all non-licensed asbestos removal works with fully CAT B accredited and UKATA registered operatives. We offer a full life cycle service from survey and planning, to removal, then disposal and clean up, all scheduled in line with your requirements and timescales. We cover non-licensed works including: demolition sites, industrial (asbestos sheeting), retail premises/ warehouses, offices, tower blocks, schools, hospitals, stadiums, contaminations, fire and flood damage and older buildings (including pigeon guano removal).


Our work in soft strip demolition does on occasion require us to undertake small demolition projects. We have a fleet of demolition plant and machinery, as well as 8 wheel tippers for this work. Our track record speaks for itself where much of our new business comes from commendations from existing clients. All our work is carried out with full insurances and a specified health and safety coordinator. 

Mechanical & Electrical Removal

Most internal or external soft strip demolition contracts require the removal of all, or most of, the mechanical and electrical installations. Typical we remove all cabling, trunking, conduits, plant rooms, lift shafts and escalators. In some cases certain elements need to continue operating, such as fire alarms, burglar alarms and respective electronic equipment so careful consideration is paramount. We have extensive experience of varied lift shaft, escalator and plant room removal involving different approaches depending on where, for example, the lift carriage/ escalator is located. We coordinate with all clients thoroughly to identify the most appropriate procedure, like working at night to minimise public disruption. We use specialist equipment to ensure quick and safe outcomes on what is always time consuming and labour intensive.

Completed Projects

Astra Zeneca, Alderley Edge, Cheshire

ACTION: The site had eleven individual buildings, two of which were fully demolished. The other nine were soft stripped back to the original structures in readiness for conversion to offices. Our brief was to remove: all fixtures and fittings, all mechanical & electrical installations (including plant rooms, boiler rooms, lift shafts), and ten thousand square feet of corrugated external sheeting. We were also tasked with removing and disposing of eight thousand square metres of non-licensed asbestos floor tiles and three and a half thousand square metres of artex wall covering.

RESULT: All works completed in twenty two weeks (four weeks early) much to the customers satisfaction.

Queen's Park Estate, Leyton, Blackpool

ACTION: Ashbek were assigned to demolishing 30 maisonettes, and soft stripping 3 tower blocks for their eventual taking down by Lancashire Council. Soft strip teams removed all lift shafts (using the voids as drop zones and a 360 degree excavator below to load for skip disposal) and removed, bagged & disposed of 6,500 square feet of non-licensed asbestos floor tiles. The tower blocks were pre-weakened by drilling & wrapping with Brokk machines, and a blast blanket laid. On blow down day the exclusion zone was created and all evacuations carried out.

RESULT: No major issues were encountered throughout the project, and blow down was executed exactly on time.

BHS (strip out), Arndale Centre, Manchester

ACTION: This project was the soft strip and M&E removal over 5 floors, which included mini plant room removal on each floor and a larger one on the roof. The brief meant the removal of all floor, wall and ceiling coverings, partitions and internal non load bearing brick and breeze block walls, 4 escalators, and two lift shafts. The building was an operational retail shopping centre with limited access and egress. All waste material was carefully dropped down a dry riser within the store to contain and load in one place to minimise disruption.

RESULT: The contract was fully completed in 14 weeks (2 weeks early) much to the delight of the client.
